Operating programs in around 70 countries, MSF offers assistance based on our evaluation of medical needs, independent of political, economic or religious interests. Our independence is rooted in our funding; over 90 per cent comes from individual private donors giving small amounts. We strive to freely evaluate needs, access populations without restriction, and to directly deliver the aid we provide.

MSF is a self-governed, worldwide movement of 25 associations, including one in Australia.  MSF Australia is based in Sydney and we recruit field staff from Australia and New Zealand.

Our work is carried out by thousands of health professionals, logistical and administrative staff; the vast majority of whom come from the countries where we are providing assistance. Around 200 field positions are filled by Australians and New Zealanders each year. In 2018, more than 67,000 MSF staff provided assistance to people caught in crisis around the world.

MSF’s actions are guided by medical ethics and the principles of neutrality and impartiality. We are constantly seeking to improve the quality, relevance and extent of our assistance, and we will speak out when we witness serious acts of violence, neglected crises, or obstructions to healthcare activities.
