Major floods have hit central and southern Chad since mid-August, with the latest floods affecting the capital, N’Djamena, where rivers have burst their banks and whole neighbourhoods have been left underwater. 

International medical organisation Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has launched an emergency response to address the most acute needs of people left with minimal access to basic services and exposed to heightened risks of infectious disease outbreaks.  

In 2002, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams opened the first outpatient treatment centre offering free care to people living with HIV in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Twenty years later, while great progress has been achieved in the country, major gaps remain in testing and treatment, causing thousands of preventable deaths each year. 

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) started an Ebola emergency mission in Uganda, after the outbreak has been declared on September 20th.

The teams are involved in supporting the Ministry of Health (MOH) in case management and are doing health promotion, a major pillar in fighting the disease. Outreach activities take place in Mubende and Kasanda, where the first cases were identified in September, and have now started in Kampala and Masaka.

The war in Ukraine has been particularly devastating for people in towns and cities in the country’s east, including in Donetsk oblast (region).

Ranging from cataract surgery to treatment for eye diseases to prescribing glasses, the camps provide a one-stop shop for essential eye healthcare.  

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has been working in Kanyaruchinya since last July, supporting the centre to enable the provision of free and quality healthcare to displaced people, people displaced by the volcanic eruption, and all the inhabitants of the area.

Port-au-Prince - The number of cholera cases is rising at an alarming rate in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince, and in several areas of the country, warns international medical organisation Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).

MSF is calling for an immediate intensification of the response to the outbreak.

Médecins Sans Frontières /Doctors Without Borders (MSF) is contributing to the national vaccination campaign against cholera launched by the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health’s by vaccinating people in Arsal, Akkar, Tripoli and Baalbak - Hermel in the north and northeast of Lebanon where most cholera cases are registered in the country.

600,000 cholera vaccine doses received by Lebanon, as first phase procurement, are to be administered in coordination with various international and local actors.

Médecins Sans Frontières/ Doctors Without Borders (MSF) officially launched medical activities in the equatorial Pacific island nation of Kiribati in October 2022. Our team there, including a paediatrician, midwife and general practitioner, support the Ministry of Health and Medical Services to improve maternal and neonatal health outcomes.

The Ebola outbreak in Uganda was declared on 20th September. According to the Ministry of Health, as of 7th November: 136 cases have been confirmed, 53 deaths were confirmed from Ebola and 61 people recovered. 

Since the outbreak began, cases have been detected in a total of eight of Uganda’s 111 districts, including in the capital city. The government confirmed five cases on October 23rd in Kampala, a packed urban centre.
