2022: Pictures from a year of humanitarian response

In 2022, MSF teams around the world continued to respond to crises, old and new. While COVID-19 was not the emergency it was in previous years, new challenges arose. The war in Ukraine escalated in February; the political, humanitarian and economic crises in Haiti deteriorated severely; cholera emerged on an exceptional scale in several countries. 

Three people found handcuffed, four injured on the Aegean island of Lesvos

Three people have been found handcuffed and four others injured, reportedly from beatings, on the Greek island of Lesvos.
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams provided emergency medical care on the scene and referred the four injured people to hospital.

Nurses and midwives are the backbone of Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) multidisciplinary teams. They also fulfill diverse and critical roles in health promotion, patient education and community care. 

Throughout 2020, MSF is celebrating the efforts of nurses and midwives and highlighting their daily contributions in and alongside MSF projects.

Greece: Refugee camp burns, but harmful detention continues

Around 12,000 people were forced to evacuate Moria refugee camp on the Greek island of Lesbos after fire completely destroyed the camp on 8 and 10 September.

Despite calls to end the containment of refugees and asylum seekers on Lesbos, the Greek government is currently constructing a new camp to house those left without shelter. The Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) team in Lesbos continues to provide care to people, while urging authorities to immediately evacuate them to safety.
